One of the most important things to focus on in gametypes such as PvP and WvW in Guild Wars 2 is your damage output, at least if you’re playing as a Warrior anyway. When you get in tight spaces and have an enemy coming at you hard you need to be able to quickly and effectively kill them. This is where having a high, fast DPS rate is essential. And that is exactly why a burst damage build is perfect for the Warrior for PvP based gameplay.
Below we have outlined the details of an excellent burst build for the Warrior profession (level 80). It has a very fast and high damage output with just enough vital skills and points to help you survive as well. Here’s a quick preview of the build:
GW2 Warrior Burst Build Breakdown
We mainly focused on getting high DPS burst damage with this build. But we also took the time to contribute some points to things like defense to get a few bonuses in toughness and vitality to increase the survival rate as well. We even chose a couple skills that will help keep you alive, too. But here’s the breakdown of what to choose and WHY we chose what we did…
Weapons to Use
For your weapons you’ll want to use Greatsword as your primary weapon and for secondary use Axe with Shield as your off-hand. The Greatsword is just awesome for burst damage, especially with the Hundred Blades skill. And the Axe makes for a handy secondary. For aquatic we always choose Spear because it seems to provide the highest damage and fastest attacks while underwater.
Strength Trait Line
We contributed 10 trait points to the strength tree for 2 reasons. The first was to add just a little extra power for additional damage to the build. The other reason was to grab the Restorative Strength skill. This is very useful because it allows you to get rid of weakness, crippled, chilled or immobilized effects when you use your healing skill.
Arms Trait Line
We put 10 trait points into the arms tree to gain the extra 100 points in precision (increases chances of getting crit hits) and to add the skill, Rending Strikes, which gives the player a 33% chance of causing vulnerability when you get critical hits. Pretty useful.
Defense Trait Line
This one is half self-explanatory. Regardless of how much DPS you have you ALWAYS need a bit of defense (aka toughness) to back it up to make sure you survive in any given situation. We threw 20 points in this tree to get the bonuses in healing and toughness. We also got the Cull the Weak (ups your damage by 5% against weakened enemies) and Last Stand (gives you balanced state whenever you are stunned, dazed, knocked down, etc) skills.
Discipline Trait Line
Finally, we come to the discipline tree. This is another obvious choice when you’re going for a high burst damage with any build. We added 30 trait points to this line to get the bonuses in critical damage and outgoing damage. We also got 3 essential skills: Heightened Focus (gives you increases of 2%, 5% and 9% for your 1st, 2nd and 3rd adrenaline levels), Mobile Strikes (any movement based skill will break immobilize) and one of the most important skills, Adrenal Reserves (costs less to use any burst skills).
We have found this build works incredibly well in both sPvP and WvW gametypes. It works pretty decently in PvE as well but mainly if you focus on single targets or get enemies grouped together well enough to where Hundred Blades hits them all with each swing. Either way, this is a great high DPS burst damage build for anyone that is playing as a Warrior in Guild Wars 2. It’s fast, powerful and will help you rack up kills like crazy.
