Since the launch of Guild Wars 2 there have been countless complaints posted on the official GW2 forums, Twitter, Facebook and various other social hangouts by players who are experiencing a rather odd, and annoying, glitch. The GW2 sound bug has been around since the game went live over 3 months ago. There’s an entire 13 page long thread about this issue on the forums.
ArenaNet has responded to these complaints on a few occasions stating they are working to resolve the problem but
many players still experience it today. For some it has been present since they installed the game the day it came out. For others the sound glitch didn’t happen at all until 1 to 2 months of playing had passed.
What is the Sound?
The actual sound heard by gamers varies in description. Some claim it sounds like a “woo” sound while others have more elaborate theories ranging from weapon sound effects produced by engineers to high-pitch echoes and beyond. There doesn’t seem to be a real answer to exactly what the sound is right now but it has been persistent since Guild Wars 2′s release date. According to players the sound seems to occur most often while playing in the WvW gametype.
What are Developers Doing About It?
The last response from an official ArenaNet community team member was given about 2 months ago. Jason King of Anet had this to say about the sound issue:
Hey everyone,
Thanks for continuing to give us details about this bug! I just checked with one of our programmers, and he’s still hard at working tracking this one down; I’ve passed on the information about the sound slider reducing the chances of it happening as well.
As before, please let us know if you find an exact way to consistently reproduce this issue, especially if you find a way to do it outside of a huge group of people.
Thank you for your patience and understanding; we’ll continue to work on this one and update as more information comes in. (source)
Since that reply there have been about 5 additional pages of complaints from GW2 players regarding the sound bug but no further replies from any of the Anet team.
One player recorded the issue on a YouTube video to help the developers figure out what may be causing it. Here is the video of the obnoxious audio happening during a PvE event:
If you are experiencing this same issue please be sure to report it to the ArenaNet team for evaluation. It doesn’t seem like much is being done about the problem despite replies saying the programming team is working on a solution but if it occurs while you’re playing you should still take the time to say something about it on the official forums. The more complaints there are, the more likely it’ll be that the developers take the time to fix it.
